About the Role

Cobalt is pleased to be partnering with Kangaroo Self Storage who are looking to appoint a Development Manager for a newly created role. Currently operating at 15 stores across Scotland & the North of England, the Group have recently been through a funding process which enables them to expand rapidly.

With an acquisitions team in place, Kangaroo are looking to increase this number to 45 stores over the next 5 years. The business currently has 10 projects ongoing including, construction, fitout and refurbishment works. The Development Manager will play a crucial role in managing the delivery of these stores and all future acquired sites, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing multiple projects per year, ensuring they meet cost, quality, and timeline targets.
  • Driving efficiencies in project delivery.
  • Coordinating internal and external teams, including contractors and suppliers.
  • Communicating project timelines and progress to key stakeholders, including the board and investors.
  • Overseeing design and specification requirements to ensure they align with business needs.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaising closely with the Acquisitions Manager and the Property Manager.

 

Skills & Experience Required

The Development Manager will ideally have a relevant Degree/Technical qualification in construction coupled with a proven track record of projects delivery, programme and design management ideally from within a self-storage or logistics sector environment. MRCIS chartership would also be advantageous. Further skills and experience should include:

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage large budgets across multiple projects.
  • A process-driven approach with strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and at a strategic level.
  • A good understanding of structural issues relating to the installation of mezzanines.
  • AutoCAD experience would be advantageous.
  • A persistent attitude to ensure that projects are completed on time.
  • Prior experience in self-storage would be advantageous.
