Service Charge Accountant

We are collaborating with a private real estate investment firm whose portfolio spans hotels, retail, leisure, and major commercial ventures. With offices, investments, and developments worldwide, this role will be based at their London West End office.

In this position, you will report to the Financial Controller and be responsible for managing a portfolio of service-chargeable properties. Your duties will include ensuring that year-end reconciliations are completed in accordance with RICS regulations.

We are seeking a candidate with commercial portfolio experience and a background in property management systems, as well as proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Your responsibilities will include preparing annual service charge budgets, completing year-end closures, billing service charges to tenants, and preparing year-end service charge reconciliations. This will involve invoice collation, analysis of income and expenditure, and managing journals and accruals.

Duties:

  • Prepare annual service charge budgets and manage year-end closures, including tenant billing and reconciliations (invoice collation, income and expenditure analysis, journals, and accruals).

  • Oversee a portfolio of service chargeable properties.

  • Conduct quarterly service charge analyses and maintain standardised codes across all properties.

  • Review leases for correct apportionments and manage service charge budgets and calculations.

  • Communicate budget variances and fund statements to internal management.

  • Liaise with Asset Managers, Building Managers, and External Management Agents.

  • Review and code invoices, monitor costs against budgets, and reconcile utility recharges.

  • Enhance service charge process efficiency and respond to tenant queries.

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of the Real Estate industry and Service Charge accounting.

  • Knowledge of property management systems is essential such as TRAMPS/Bluebox, Qube, Horizon, Yardi etc

  • Able to work on their own initiative, be adaptable with good organisational skills and be able to plan their workload and resolve problems efficiently.
