Urgent General Manager hire for imminent flagship BTR site launch
The Challenge
Cobalt was approached by this highly-regarded BTR brand, initially to hire a General Manager for one of their new residential schemes in London.
The launch date for the new site was fast approaching, and our client had not yet been able to appoint a suitable individual to manage it, despite having the role out with a number of different agencies.
Not only did the client require someone on short notice, they needed a very specific personality and experience level for the position due to the complex nature of the site. They were looking for a confident leader, who had direct experience to managing largescale buildings and diverse teams.
Due to the number of agents who had already been working on the role, we had to market our client with consistency and ensure we navigated a very small talent pool carefully, as prospective candidates may have already been spoken to about the position. It was paramount we maintained a positive brand image for the client.
The Solution
We have a proven track record in the BTR space, so the role itself is something we have great experience of placing, we just needed to work at pace and be adaptable to the situation.
We targeted inactive talent in the area through our sizable database of historically registered candidates, and direct outreach to similar candidates from our client’s competitors, having mapped the geography of other BTR sites locally. Many of the candidates we spoke to were open to at least having a conversation about the role, especially as they recognised our brand within the sector.
The process involved three stages that included an in-person meeting, a presentation, and a final meeting with the senior leaders of the business, all of which we managed to compact within a two-week timeframe – something that was critical for the hire.
The Results
Not only were we able to place this role successfully, but we went on to place every other General Manager they required across their business throughout 2024.
