Project: £30m Station Interchange

Client / Project Overview

Cobalt is partnering with a Tier 1 Global Contractor, offering an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to oversee a £30m Interchange project. The outdated bus station will be replaced by a modern, accessible interchange, seamlessly connecting bus and Metro services. As part of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, this project will enhance Dudley's connectivity, improving access to jobs and leisure while serving as a welcoming gateway for visitors. Scheduled for completion in 2025, this interchange is part of broader regeneration efforts in Dudley, alongside the Porterfield development, the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre, and other notable projects such as the Black Country Living Museum and the Black Country and Marches Institute of Technology.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for assembling and leading a project team, defining objectives, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The goal is to deliver the project on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As the senior site representative, the role involves maximizing profit, exceeding client expectations, and ensuring smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities



Resource Management:

  • Maintain a clear management structure
  • Assign responsibilities and ensure team members are aware of expectations
  • Recruit additional resources as necessary
  • Develop team members through training and coaching
  • Manage and resolve employee conflicts


Information Management:

  • Oversee designers and provide guidance to the design manager
  • Develop and monitor project schedules
  • Disseminate relevant information to stakeholders
  • Understand and apply BIM (Building Information Modelling) principles
  • Provide management updates to the line manager


Production Oversight:

  • Procure materials, equipment, and subcontractors to meet project goals
  • Ensure high-quality standards are met
  • Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Conduct Health & Safety reviews and investigate incidents
  • Perform regular site inspections to ensure compliance
  • Adhere to budget, quality, and safety standards
  • Identify and address potential disputes or claims in project design and construction
  • Manage legal matters and defect liability
  • Coordinate effectively with contractors
  • Develop solutions to major project challenges


Project Planning:

  • Establish and maintain overall project strategy
  • Create plans to achieve project milestones
  • Ensure construction progresses according to schedule
  • Regularly monitor project progress and hold status meetings
  • Review project plans with the Contracts Manager monthly


Client and Stakeholder Liaison:

  • Manage client and end-user expectations
  • Address queries and resolve complaints
  • Build long-term relationships for future opportunities
  • Provide progress reports and communicate issues as needed


Administration:

  • Ensure all project documentation is up-to-date and complete
  • Manage site administration, including secretary/receptionist functions
