Sector: Major Highways
Salary: Up to £80,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package
About the Client & Role
Cobalt is partnering with a global, Tier 1 contractor renowned for driving innovative infrastructure that supports communities and promotes sustainable development for future generations. We are seeking an Estimator to join their dynamic commercial team, contributing to high-impact highways projects.
Role Purpose
As an Estimator, you'll work closely with the Managing and Senior Estimators to develop estimates based on first principles for civil components of complex, multi-discipline highways projects across various stages. You'll play a key role in formulating pricing strategies, and you'll support presentations, negotiations, and transparent pricing discussions with both internal senior leaders and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare estimates in alignment with company policies and standards.
Analyze client drawings and specifications to generate accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
Evaluate design options and "value" solutions to identify project feasibility using core estimating principles.
Document assumptions, pinpoint risks and opportunities, and assist in developing risk assessments from a budgetary perspective.
Collaborate with project teams and the supply chain to gain a thorough understanding of proposed methodologies and principles.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead small to mid-sized bids, ensuring the timely and precise preparation of tender documentation.
Review and analyze design options, preparing accurate cost assessments for materials, labor, and equipment.
Ensure adherence to pre-construction gate processes and other company procedures.
Examine tender documents, ensuring all financial information and compliant design proposals are complete.
Set and agree on key rates, working with engineering and planning teams to finalize key methodologies and equipment selection.
Perform detailed reviews of subcontractor proposals.
Working Arrangements
Our client offers a flexible hybrid working model, requiring a minimum of three days in the office. Office locations include Dartford, Leatherhead, and South Mimms, and the location can be flexible to accommodate your preference.
Ideal Candidate
Solid background in infrastructure main contracting.
Prior experience in estimating, with a commercial or operational background considered an advantage.
Working towards, or already chartered with, a recognized professional body (e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
Proficiency in Candy Estimating Software is beneficial but not essential.
Strong financial acumen with attention to detail in analyzing complex data and documentation.
Proficient in general IT applications, particularly Word and Excel.
